This holiday season, have some spirited fun during the Grinch Made Me Do It Saloon Crawl in Virginia City. Bring your group of merry elves to enjoy festive holiday drink samples at participating saloons and restaurants throughout this Hallmark-perfect Christmas town. The saloon crawl starts at 11 a.m., with check-in starting at 10 a.m. Drinks are served until 4 p.m.

Advance tickets are $25 online, or $35 day-of, which includes a specialty drink or food sample at more than 12 participating stops in town. Designated drivers and those looking to stay sober can be “Rudolph” for $10 in advance, $15 day-of, which gets them free non-alcoholic beverages, sweet treat samples and the chance to win a $50 gas card.

Purchase online in advance and automatically be entered to win great Virginia City prizes! Drawing will be held after the crawl and winners will be notified via email. Need not be present to win.

Stay after the crawl for the Parade of Lights down C Street at 5 p.m. and a Magical Christmas Fireworks Show at 6 p.m.

Cemetery Gin's Hunt for the Spirits

Embark on the ultimate outdoor “escape room” at Cemetery Gin’s Hunt for Spirits. As one of America’s spookiest towns, Virginia City is the perfect destination for this tasty scavenger hunt. Costume up and use your knowledge of the town to solve clues, unscramble a secret message, and enjoy spirited samples along the way. If you make it to the end and solve the riddle, spin for fun Virginia City prizes. Be sure to stop by the Cemetery Gin tasting locations around town, each featuring delicious Cemetery Gin mixed drink samples, and vote for your favorite concoction.

Tickets are $35 in advance and include a map with clues to 20 locations throughout town, 12 of them serving up delicious samples with alcohol or sweet treats. For those wanting to solve the clues only, tickets are $25 and do not include samples.

Since we know you’ll want to take some home, bottles of Cemetery Gin are available for purchase at the Visitors Center, 86 S. C Street, or at locations throughout northern Nevada.

This is a 21+ event.

33rd World Championship Outhouse Races

This is one time and place where potty humor is accepted and encouraged – the annual World Championship Outhouse Races right here in Virginia City. This free event dates back when outdoor plumbing was outlawed and angry residents took to the streets with their outhouses in protest – and the tradition was born.

This hilarious event pits teams of costumed outhouse racers against each other in an all-out potty race pushing their homemade outhouses down C Street toward the toilet paper finish line all to claim the latrine title. The Parade of Outhouses begins Saturday at noon with races immediately following.

63rd International Camel & Ostrich Races

What began as a prank between two newspaper editors more than 60 years ago has turned into one of the most beloved and hilarious family events in the west, and this town’s favorite tradition. The 63rd annual International Camel & Ostrich Races bring the laughs for the whole family as jockeys, both professional and amateur, race their camels, ostriches and zebras around the track to the roars of the crowd. You never know what might happen. A comical racing spectacle that leaves the entire family laughing, the event includes a fair-like midway with vendors and treats for the family. You can even catch a ride on a camel – a photo op not to be missed.

With four shows to choose from, there’s no reason to miss this fan-favorite event. Friday night, Sept. 9, enjoy Hot Camel Nights, an evening show with discounted rates for locals. Saturday, Sept. 10 catch the 10 a.m. or the 2 p.m. show. Sunday, Sept. 11 is Family Day with a show at noon.

You’ve never felt more patriotic than visiting Virginia City on the Fourth of July. This historic town’s Independence Day celebration is pure Americana with a jovial atmosphere all day and night. The streets are decked in red, white and blue. The parade is full of candy-throwing, classic cars and car clubs, first responders, military and veteran organizations and more. A free concert takes place before the fireworks with David John & the Comstock Cowboys. When it comes to the main show, you’re guaranteed to feel the boom of the fireworks in your bones as they shoot into the night sky over towering above the small mountain town.

This May, top chili cooks gather for the 39th annual Chili on the Comstock. Combined with a Craft Beer Tour featuring pours from our local saloons and award-winning craft breweries, it’s the most delicious and satisfying event of the year.

Rejoice at the endless varieties to sample, all cooked up by top chili cooks competing for a spot in the International Chili Society World Finals. 51st Annual Virginia City Grand Prix

Our historic streets are transformed into a motorcycle arena as nearly a thousand off-road bikes gather for this competitive race during the 51st Virginia City Grand Prix.

Races begin on C Street so spectators can get an up-close and personal view of this high-speed race before they zoom on to the off-road portions of the race. The annual two-day event is the ultimate Comstock battle of racer versus the rough terrain.

This St. Patrick’s Day celebration unites daring revelers for a wild and outlandish festival featuring tasty testes, a Ball Breaker Saloon Crawl, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, costume contests and more.

Cooks compete for bragging rights by preparing their most innovative and, sometimes, outlandish recipes featuring oysters of the land variety. You might forget what you’re really eating – seriously it’s that good. Purchase a sampler and select from grilled, smoked, fried or even oysters in a taco.
